this is bogus
because of this, i'm naturally feeling reluctant to recap all the hilarity that ensued in the course of my wonderful time in ital-town. pictures have been put on facebook and will remain there for about a week or so, before they get taken down and my anonymity (such as it is) is returned to me...most of the peeps who read this (ie. my sister) are also on facebook, so that should kill a couple of birds with one stone.
last night's dinnie was delicious. that italian oil-packed tuna is the best. it's basically like confit tuna. it was nice to get some green, crunchy matter into my diet again...it was a welcome change to have to masticate my food and work for it. tonight i made tuna noodle casserole (using regular, supermarket tuna). i love tuna noodle casserole because the way i make it, it gets topped with cubes of bread that have been tossed in melted butter. i used challah, and the crispy, vaguely sweet, browned crusty topping is the stuff that dreams are made of. i accompanied this with a salad made out of green leaf lettuce, radicchio, cucumber, radishes, and grated carrot. i quite like the italian habit of ending the meal with salad (before dessert). it really clears the palate and makes you feel fresh again.
finally, i'm going to leave you with a picture of me and dario cecchini, the dante-quoting butcher from bill buford's book (previously reviewed on this blog), "heat". i look like ass because i'm nerding it up so hardcore but i couldn't help it because he's so so so awesome and i was in food-nerd heaven.
