poor dotytron

this post is dedicated to you, sally hansen (new nickname...ha!). poor dotytron has had a pickle of a few weeks. not only is he waiting on tenterhooks to hear back from teacher's colleges (york and OISE), but his grandpa passed away, then he got the flu, and then the family dog had to be put down today (the end was near, but the dotytron thought he was going over to say goodbye, and it turned out that he had to be the one to take the dog to the vet and be with her when it all went down). hopefully the worst of the bad pass is behind him...cross your fingers! rip, stella...hopefully in doggy heaven you can bark at nothing all the live long day in a giant, perfectly manicured garden for trampling underfoot, you can wheeze all the people food you want off of everyone's plates, and there are plastic bags aplenty to snack on when people food gets boring.

that's a picture of the split pea and ham soup i made the other night (tuesday night's dinner). it was very very easy. i took the leftover ham bone and most of the leftover ham meat and chucked it in the slow cooker with 1lb of yellow split peas, 8 cups of water, 1 onion sauteed with some diced carrot, diced celery, garlic, and diced sweet potato. then let it sim-simmah all day and finished it with some salt and pepper. it's hearty, french canadienne stuff.

tonight's dinner was a kale, ricotta, pancetta and mozzarella pie with a side salad that was kind of spanish-influenced: romaine, baby spinach, toasted almonds, chunks of avocado, and shaved majorero cheese in a blood orange, lemon juice, and olive oil vinaigrette.

now i'm doing homework like a mofo until i get these two assignments done done done! i'm trying to impose a yarn diet on myself but i don't know if it will work. an online yarn store is having a sale, and a yarn that i've worked with before is on for almost half price and there are still some luscious, plummy colours left. i don't know if i'll be able to resist! i also made the mistake of browsing through my favorite vintage clothing sellers on ebay, which was another terrible mistake. how many breezy, loose, flowy, hippie-influenced summer dresses can a girl have? how many muumuus does it take before it becomes an unhealthy obsession? how many shrunken jackets, wide-legged trouser pants, cute flats? why is it so hard to find a nice-all purpose wide belt?

questions, questions.

fin.
